Foreclosures in Ft Lauderdale and Broward county
June 11, 2008
Home foreclosures and late payments nationwide set records over the first three months of the year and are expected to keep rising in the near term.
Florida was second in the nation with 77,000 foreclosures during the first quarter. California led the country with 109,000.
In the first quarter, Broward had 8,145 homeowners behind on their mortgage payments and facing foreclosure, more than double the 3,100 a year earlier, according to a local research firm. In Palm Beach county 5,459 people were on the verge of losing their homes, up from 2,255 during the first quarter of 2007. Florida, California, Nevada and Arizona accounted for 89 percent of the total increase in new home foreclosures.
